What do you believe is the purpose of a college education?
I believe that a college education is needed to further your knowledge of not only what field you would liketo work in but to further you world knowledge. I believe that in the common persons' eyes, a college education means getting a job later on in life and without a college diploma, your chances of a career in the future drop dramatically. But I also feel that people grow and learn a lot in college. Everyone gains valuable life experiences and tools that are needed for the future ahead of us. I am not saying that if you do not recieve a college educaiton then you do not have these skills or experiences, but I feel that most people do get these from college.
What does it mean to be educated?
I think that being educated means being well rounded in all aspects of the world but I also feel that being educated means to also be open minded. I think that one person should be well rounded in both acedmics and social life. I think that an individual should have both book smarts and street smarts. Aside from all of this knowledge I think that being educated also means that an individual is open minded about things that are harder or new to them.
What experiences have you had with education that led you to this belief?
College has really opened up my eyes to many different things and many different people. I have had to have an open mind about many things such as living with complete strangers, being thrown into situations where I know nothing, and just being on my own in general. College has taught me so much already about how to become the best teacher that I could be. College has also taught me life experiences where I would have never thought I would have done if you asked me five years ago. I have learned so much inside and outside the classroom and that was only because I had an open mind about everything.
